who: Anne Ten Donkelaar
what: Mixed media floral imagery
why: because these delicate floral constructs are beautiful fantastical artworks featuring real pressed flowers combined with paper collage giving a real 3D mini garden for your wall! They have that etherial quality that suggests a flower fairy might just be hiding behind a toadstool and remind us of childhood days making daisy chains. Donkelaar, who states that she was 'obsessed with flowers as a kid' has also worked on other interesting projects such as her 'Broken Butterflies' series, where she reconstructs the missing wings of dead butterflies in an equally delicate and charming way. This is something that could easily inspire a nature related project using a mixture of real and found imagery and combining other mixed medias such as drawing or stitching.
